This is a sculptural sleeveless coat dress in midnight blue, made with heavy wool twill. The main body is constructed by folding a piece of the fabric. Although the garment itself is constructed with a heavy fabric, balance is maintained and the weight is evenly distributed between the shoulders and back. This deliberate shifting of focus to the back of the garment is a recurring theme in Cristóbal Balenciaga’s work and the student employs this in her own design.

Six ideas

“Six ideas inspire my creative process based on the dichotomy between comfort and daring silhouettes: an embrace, a weighted blanket, a surface without light, an overwhelming volume, a aconcealing of the body, and comfort".
